You don't think of ducks as having expressions, but this one looks very smug. Nice capture.

hello again! back from a lovely warm south of france and this great picture is a fitting place to recommence my daily visits. it is amazing indeed that this gentle rural looking duck is paddling around the city that never sleeps. wherever you go, you come across dogs and ducks, cows and spiders who, like ourselves, through a simple twist of fate find themselves leading either desperate or privileged lives. cattle destined for dinner or milk parlour versus the cow revered and worshipped in India. dogs who scavenge and fight for survival versus those who travel in some celebrity handbag, fed on caviar and dressed in Gucci. we sat in the stone walled Great Hall of our 14th century gite (an old hunting lodge of the Comtes de L'Isles), looking at the squirrels looking at us from their perch in the high rafters. they sit in the glow of the fire from the huge, walk-in fireplace, waiting to take our places after we have retired. i thought of the squirrels in central park, coping with life in the city.
so Bonjour, Monsieur Canard du New York, you lucky duck you - your brothers in Languedoc usually end up on a dinner plate!

have you ever got that right, r. and more often than not, i am struck by the supreme injustice of it all.
